4 Berth VW T5.1 T30 SWB Bi turbo Campervan (seats 6)
THE VAN
T30 180 TDI SWB
3 owners plus me (previous owner a friend of mine who had conversion done circa summer 2018)
Full very comprehensive service history , fully stamped service book and lots of invoices
Highline alloys (I think) with VW lowered springs
Genuine VW T5 Front Sportline Splitter Grills, professionally sprayed to match van.
Roof rails and bars
Air conditioning
Leather seats front and rear.
Tow bar
Kenwood car play system with upgraded door speakers and a sub woofer under passenger double seat. Professional Install by Accutek. Sounds amazing. £2k worth.
The van is in fantastic condition and is my daily driver. Pulls like a train, no issues whatsoever. Drove down to Italy and back skiing last year and didn’t miss a beat, sat at 80mph most of the way.
THE CONVERSION
Carried out in stages by my friend the previous owner, used as a base for his triathlon events around the country.
Fully insulated and lined with Altro flooring
MS Craft rotating Dual front seat with associated VCA paperwork for the install.
Full width Kiravans Design RIB 150 seat installation (rock ‘n’ roll bed). Like being in your bed at home due to being the full width of the van.
Skyline pop up roof conversion with room for 2 to sleep or push the base all the way up and have standing head room. The entire front of the canopy can be unzipped so you can sit up there with a beer/wine/cuppa.
Fully carpeted bespoke made storage box inside back doors. This is where I keep all the camping ancillaries (chocks, hook up cable, window blinds etc). If transporting a bike, by just removing the front wheel it can be stored on top of the box across ways and out of sight.
Webasto Airtop diesel heater (supply from vans tank)
Compressor fridge with freezer compartment (game changer)
Full electrics with 240v hook up( under bonnet so no hole drilled in body) (240v socket in driver seat base)
Leisure battery – 110amp
CBE battery charger , circuit breaker and 4 way fuse box ( mounted in rear)
Battery level indicator
Sterling 1000w inverter (2x 240v sockets)
LED lighting
Van-X black out curtains
Vango Airaway Cruz low drive away awning with groundsheet and carpet. This includes the drive away kit. This awning is brilliant and very quick to put up and take down. Comes with spare tubes in case of punctures.
Front and side window black out thermal screens specific to T5.
MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING
Comprehensive service history with fully stamped up service book and invoices as confirmation.
Original book pack and spare key.
EGR Valve replaced 08/06/2024 at 52329 miles – £690
Clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced 12/04/2022 at 77331 miles – £1274
Cambelt and Water Pump changed 09/01/2023 at 86807 miles – £502
Ignition Switch and Steering Lock replaced (common fault apparently) on 12/01/2023 – £175
Recent new front discs and pads all round.
All the expensive things that go wrong with T5,s have already been carried out.
I had the van remapped by Pendle Performance in September 2023. The HP is only increased to 200hp from the original 180hp so not crazy but the torque difference at low revs is very noticeable which helps on hills when loaded up with camping kit, no need to change down a gear. The really encouraging part of this story is that they test the engine HP before and after the remap and the van was bang on 180 HP prior to changing, which the technician said is very unusual. He said this was because of the strict servicing schedule with regular oil changes and stated it was the nicest driving T5 he had driven to date. Economy has gone up by a few mpg which is a bonus.
GENERAL
This is a unique van as it is not a full conversion. If you speak to owners of camper conversions in these size vans, most will tell you that they never cook in their vans anyway and use the campsite facilities for washing up etc, doing cooking in the awning or outside altogether. Who wants to stink their van out cooking bacon?! Having had a fully converted old T4, that’s exactly what we did. The compartment over the fridge has a plug socket and is purpose deigned to put the kettle and brew kit on so you just sit up in bed and flick the kettle on.😊The full size bed is amazing too.
Selling this is a real wrench, it’s been a joy to own and drive but having recently rescued a medium sized dog and wanting to do extended tours in Europe, we are stepping up in size to a VW Crafter sized van. If I could afford to keep and have both I would, in a heartbeat.
