Very reluctant sale of my much-loved Mazda Bongo campervan. She has been my pride and joy for the last nine years and has given us some wonderful holidays, adventures and memories.
I paid £17,000 for her nine years ago, when she was imported and professionally converted by JAL Autos. I have been her only UK owner since import, and she came with BIMTA mileage verification.

She has covered approximately 71,000 miles (114,230 km) and has been a fantastic campervan. The engine has always been extremely reliable and has never given me any problems.
The interior really is lovely and has been very well looked after. It’s a proper, professionally fitted camper conversion with everything you need for comfortable camping, whether for weekends away or longer holidays.
Features include:
Professional JAL Autos full side conversion
Wide 47-inch rock-and-roll bed, which folds up into comfortable seating
Pop-up roof with additional sleeping accommodation
Fridge
Two-burner gas hob and sink
Fitted cupboards and plenty of storage
Electric blinds
Fantastic upgraded stereo system
Electric hook-up
Tow bar
New tyres
The pop-up roof and upper sleeping area are also in great condition. The camper interior has been very well cared for and is a lovely place to spend time.
I’m including the camping equipment I’ve accumulated over the years, making this a really complete camping set-up.
This includes:
Large Horizon 320 drive-away awning
Fitted internal carpet for the awning
Pop-up kitchen unit for use in the awning
Camping chairs
Water butt/container
Whale water connector
Electric hook-up equipment
Additional camping accessories
The awning provides a fantastic amount of additional living space and makes the Bongo particularly comfortable for longer stays. The photographs show how lovely the whole set-up is when pitched.
The engine has always been extremely reliable throughout my nine years of ownership and has never given me any problems.
She has had a considerable amount of work carried out recently, including:
New exhaust
New tyres
Welding work carried out in February 2026
Transmission-fluid pipe replaced and reconnected
Other maintenance and repairs
She has an MOT until 16 February 2027.
I want to be completely upfront about her history. She previously broke down twice because a transmission-fluid pipe came off, allowing the fluid to drain out. This was not an engine problem. The pipe has since been replaced and reconnected, and she has been running and driving since the repair.
She is now 24 years old and, although the camper conversion and interior remain in beautiful condition, the exterior bodywork does need attention.
There is visible rust around the wheel arches and lower bodywork, and the paintwork would benefit from some care to bring her back to her best. I’ve included photographs showing this honestly.
She had welding work carried out in February 2026 and has a current MOT. There is an advisory concerning the front crossmember beneath the radiator, which is holed/corroded and needs monitoring and may require future attention.
I would much rather be honest about these things from the outset so that anyone coming to view knows exactly what to expect.
The asking price reflects the exterior bodywork and the issues I’ve described.
This is not a pristine 24-year-old vehicle, and I’m not pretending otherwise. However, she has a beautiful professionally fitted JAL Autos conversion, a pop-up roof, a lovely interior, verified mileage on import, a reliable engine throughout my ownership and a substantial amount of camping equipment included.
I’ve already spent money on important repairs, including the recent welding, new exhaust, tyres and transmission-fluid pipe.
The truth is, I simply don’t have the time to give her the care and attention she deserves anymore.
She’s been my pride and joy for nine years and has been part of some very happy times in our lives. I would much rather see her go to someone who appreciates these lovely old campers and has the time and ability to look after her properly.
For the right person, I believe she could be brought back to her former glory and provide many more years of wonderful camping adventures.
There is a lot of campervan here for £4,000, particularly with the quality of the conversion and all the equipment included.
I’d love her to go to a good home where she can be enjoyed as much as we have enjoyed her.
Asking price: £4,000
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Genuine enquiries and viewings welcome. I’m very happy to answer questions and show prospective buyers around the camper and all the equipment included.
