We bought this Citroen Relay L3H2 new and have invested around £60,000 into the van and conversion combined. The result is a beautiful, characterful self-build with a soul that no professional fit-out can replicate, but the mechanical, electrical and heating systems are not to miss.
The Heating & Hot Water System, Truly One of a Kind
This is where the van genuinely stands apart. It features a full Van Life Tech Hydronic Underfloor Heating and Hot Water on Demand system. A hydronic setup of this type in a UK van conversion is exceptionally rare, as far as we’re aware, unique in this configuration in the UK. Step out of bed onto a warm floor in the middle of winter, with hot water on demand and heated tanks beneath the van ensuring genuine cold-weather capability without frozen pipes or compromises.
The Electrical System
The entire electrical system was designed and commissioned by Roamer Batteries and comes with a 460Ah lithium-ion battery. The setup is fully Victron throughout:
- Bank, 3x250W solar panels (750W total)
- Victron MPPT charge controller
- Two Victron DC/DC chargers
- 3000W inverter
- Cerbo GX with water tank monitoring
This is a seriously spec’d system that will handle whatever you throw at it. On board we don’t have any Gas, and depend purely on the electrical system for induction cooking. It’s fantastic having this flexibility.
Water
A 66L fresh water tank with internal fill access and a 50L grey water tank, paired with a full 3-stage ClearSource filtration system for clean, filtered water on tap wherever you are. Tank levels are monitored directly through the Cerbo GX.
Living Space
The L3H2 dimensions give you genuine space to live in. There’s a full double mattress for a proper night’s rest, a Laguna table for dining or working, and a swivel seat that transforms the cab into part of your living area – making the whole van feel far bigger than it is. Underneath, there’s plenty of garage storage for bikes, kit, and everything else that comes with an adventurous life.
Ventilation, Connectivity & Outside
Maxxair fan installation for airflow and condensation management, a 5G antenna for reliable connectivity whether you’re on the road or deep in the wilderness, and a Fiamma F80S large awning, worth over £1,000.
A Note on the Build
This is a self-conversion, and it wears that proudly. It’s a beautiful, lived-in build with the charm and character that comes with something made by hand with care. As with any self-build, there are areas the next owner might choose to refine or personalise further, but the hard work, and the expensive work, is done to an exceptional standard.
