Built last year for long-distance off-grid adventures and equipped with everything you could need including solar panels, invertor, heating, hot water, kitchen and shower/toilet. All work professionally undertaken by MnP Horseboxes of Gainsborough. The horse area remains unconverted, leaving room to either provide further living accommodation or to return the truck to use as a horsebox. I was planning to live in it full-time but I’ve had a change in personal circumstances.
Base vehicle: 1999 Leyland DAF FA 45.130, 5880cc Cummings engine, 179K miles. Very clean and runs beautifully. New skirts all round. Bodywork tidy and freshly painted. All tyres good. New handbrake cylinder. MOT until end November 2024. Very minor advisories. Fully serviced late last summer. The cab is non-tilt but I’ve had a large cut-out made in the floor of the cab to provide engine access. Super comfortable Alfa Romeo seats fitted in cab, which also has a reversing camera. The floor of the horse area has been recently replaced. The truck is fitted with a 4.5 metres Fiamma F45S wind-out sun canopy, new last summer. There is an on-board underslung water tank, with lockable filler cap (plus additional water storage in rear).
Electrics and solar: The solar set-up was supplied by Bimble Solar last year at a cost of around 2.5K. It consists of: 3x 410W Canadian Solar, half-cell solar panels, on roof; a 60A MPPT charge controller, with Bluetooth dongle to monitor and control through IPhone or Android app.; a Victron Pheonix 24/500 Invertor; and 4x 12v SEC Sterling Batteries, 85ah AGM Deep Cycle. The power source can be switched between solar and engine. The invertor feeds 240v sockets around the truck, including the horse area. LED lights fitted in ceiling.
Kitchen: Smev double hob and sink. Hot and cold water with mixer tap. Dometic three-way (12v, 240v, gas) fridge, with freezer compartment. Plenty of storage including high-level units, under-sink cupboard, drawers and wardrobe. Hot water supplied by Carver Crusade gas boiler. Gas-It LPG system, with one LPG and one standard UK gas bottles. Adaptor nozzles for use in all countries, housed in large tack-locker. Propex Heatsource air-blown gas heating with thermostat.
Shower-room/Toilet: Chemical cassette toilet, folding wash basin, hot and cold supply, shower hose and tray, vanity cupboard.
Sleeping: Single bed (new Emma mattress) above cab, but will take a ¾ bed to sleep two. The above-cab space has two newly fitted windows to give air and light. The rear horse-area remains unconverted, so there is scope to provide further accommodation.
