For sale is our beloved motorhome, reluctantly listing. This Sprinter is an incredible example, hand-crafted and lovingly maintained throughout our ownership with a view to very long term reliability and usability. It has a far higher specification than many more expensive motorhomes, and its new owner will be getting a bargain for far less than the sum of its parts!
Spending nights away from home is a pleasure, with seemingly unlimited heat, water and power from the thoughtfully designed systems. These are all easily monitored via the control panels and Victron app, then when you’re nearing the end of the day, switch from spotlights to reading lights for the last few minutes of the evening.
I purchase the van from the self- builder in 2022. He originally purchased 11/08/2020 from Truck and Van Plus Ltd as a ‘mechanically faultless’ base vehicle for conversion with full Mercedes Benz service history. He designed the vehicle from the outset as a luxury off-grid motorhome. His background is as a qualified electrician and experienced property refurbishment specialist, so quality and longevity were the primary goals. Prior to purchase, a fastidious schedule of materials and products was drawn up to ensure weight was minimised, an often too overlooked topic in the motorhome world. The result is a unique motorhome built with quality materials, that weighs 3210kg (against a 3500kg GVM), giving you a generous payload to enjoy many long trips away. If you have the correct licence, the GVM can be uprated as high as 4050kg by SVTech.
Given that longevity was essential, the first step was to book the vehicle into Mercedes-Benz Westbury for a detailed health check. The vehicle was previously under a Mercedes-Benz service plan, and a new subscription was taken out at this time. A full service was carried out on 26th October 2020, and an additional services have been carried out by E star truck and van (Mercedes specialists) northwest.

MECHANICAL
Suspension – Front struts upgraded to Bilstein B8 dampers. These are extremely hard (and expensive!) to source, but transform the handling and ride comfort. In addition, SumoSprings #SSF-106- 40 are fitted at the front, with #SSR-329-47 at the rear. A brilliant product imported from the US by Rhodes Vans that supports the standard suspension set up to restore the pre-conversion ride dynamics.
Windows – VanPimps privacy tint windows to the front driver’s side and whole passenger’s side, opening where applicable.
Engine tuning – engine management software upgrade and DPF clean from Avon Tuning
Parking sensors front and rear
Tyre pressure monitoring system that provides tyre pressure and temperature at each wheel
Seating – the motorhome is capable of seating 6, with OEM individual captain’s seats in the front and reclining, removable leather seats in the rear (all with ISOFIX). The layout is primarily designed to seat 4, with a 5th seat in the ‘corridor’. There are runners fitted for a 6th seat under the additional kitchen unit should you wish to alter the layout.
STRUCTURAL
Insulation – a combination of rigid Celotex, flexible mineral wool and expanding foam in inaccessible areas. The ceiling and floor are completely covered in rigid Celotex, with the walls, side and rear doors receiving a mixture of rigid and flexible.
Floor construction – 18mm CE2+ structural plywood across the entire floor
Wall construction – 5.5mm plywood strip battens for ceiling and exterior walls, with internal walls constructed of 63x38mm CLS timber studwork

Lighting – 4 x LED spotlights to main ceiling, 2 x LED reading lights, one to each bed, and 2 x LED spotlights in garage area. There is also an additional ceiling light within the Maxxfan shade unit. Wall to left of lower bed is fitted on sprung hinges, completely pivoting up allowing access to electrics, plumbing, water heater and gas pipework. There is also a small pop out inspection hatch within this allowing quick access to the electrical fuses and switchgear.
PLUMBING
Water heater – IMASS Instantaneous LPG water heater (unlimited hot water) with remote controller located above fridge
Water tanks – there are two fresh water tanks fitted, one 70 litre tank underslung behind the rear axle, and one 60 litre tank within the accommodation underneath the bed. These are arranged so that in summer both tanks can be used to give 130 litre fresh water capacity, and in winter the external tank can be emptied and bypassed to give 60 litre fresh water capacity within the insulated interior.
Waste water tank – 52 litre underslung tank located behind the driver’s footwell
Gauges – 2 x CBE Caravan fresh and Waste Water Tank Level Indicator (each tank monitored individually)
Pump – Shurflo Trail King Caravan Motorhome Pressurised Water Pump, 10.6 litre/min, 30 PSI
Filter – Shurflo Caravan & Motorhome Water Strainer Filter
Accumulator – Fiamma A20 Universal Expansion Tank
Garage hose feed – additional water outlet hose within the garage area, to allow external water usage for hosing off etc.
Shower – residential quality chrome shower mixer valve with separate hose outlet, provides an extremely generous shower experience
Shower tray – 670x670mm shower tray, with plug to allow 100mm standing warm water
Sink combination unit – Dometic HSG 2370 Smev 9222 Sink and Hob Combination Unit
Drainage – via flexible pipe from kitchen sink and rigid 32mm solvent pipe from shower (fast draining)
Toilet – Thetford Porta Potti Excellence 565 – White (Electric Flush).
HEATING
The level and quality of insulation means heating is rarely required in summer, but for going off-grid in the colder months a 2kW diesel heater is fitted with front and rear outlets. This is fuelled via the auxillary fuel tap on the main vehicle fuel tank, not a separate internal tank as commonly seen. This has been thoroughly tested with a logging thermometer (as we have stayed several nights with my infant daughter) and can keep the whole vehicle at up to 27oC when the outside temperature is 0oC. Also, the 230v cabling is sized to allow an electric heater to be used when connected to shore power at a campsite, however the onboard is so economical and efficient it is unlikely you will ever choose to.
VENTILATION
Roof fan – Maxxair Maxxfan Deluxe Roof Vent Fan With Remote Control and Maxxshade Roller Blind with additional LED Lighting
GAS
Cylinder – 2 x Campingaz 907 cylinders onboard. In the 6 months I have used the motorhome only half of one bottle has been used.
Gas locker – High Peak Conversion gas locker sized specifically for the Campingaz 907
Scales – Electronic hanging scales included for weighing gas bottles to check on remaining gas quantity. The gas usage on this set up (due to diesel heating) is incredibly low. Isolation – Truma Electro Shut Off Gas Valve, located adjacent to the hob for hassle-free gas isolation whenever the hob or water heater are required.
FURNISHINGS
Wall cladding – Targwall Datcha White PVC Wall Panel. An incredibly high quality and durable panelling system. The best of both worlds between the beauty of wood and the durability of plastic. Flooring – Oslo 584 Nova Wood Vinyl Flooring
Kitchen – Ikea Voxtorp Matt White units with soft close drawer runners and cupboard hinges. The soft close element ensures these stay shut during travel.
