I am very reluctantly selling my pride and joy as I cant warrant not using her very much as I just dont have the time anymore. This is a gorgeous and utterly unique example, a genuine right-hand drive Volkswagen Camper, Early Bay. Since 2008 she had been with same owner until I purchased her in 2020 ,in 2013 the camper was subject to a ground up, no expense spared, bare shell restoration. The fantastic history file, detailing every last penny spent, fills an entire box file and totals in excess of £50,000 of invoices which is rare to have on these vehicle’s.
During the restoration in 2013 the Camper was completely stripped to a bare shell, then acid dipped to reveal all weak areas and after detailed repairs has been sprayed in Savannah Yellow with Pastel White. The Devon ‘Pop-top’ works exactly as it should and with the roof elevated its just fabulous to have the extra light coming in, the small additional skylight allowing a breeze of fresh air when the doors / windows are all shut. I also have a period luggage rack which matches the Pastel White paint work and Inflatable awning which cost £450 and also a Just Kampers vehicle cover.
Complementing the bodywork the interior of the Camper has undergone a complete make-over too, with seats front and rear, full width Rock n Roll bed, being retrimmed to match the exterior paint. There’s a new roof lining, seat belts front (2) / rear (3), bespoke cabinets by ‘The Camper Shak’, full kitchen set-up with sink, gas hob, electric fridge, 3 pin power sockets / USBs, LED lights, the list is endless. This work alone cost £1000’s and can be used with either just the Leisure Battery connected or via Mains Hook-up which has also been installed along with the appropriate consumer unit / isolator switches…..its had the works!
Mechanically the Camper is spot on too. A glance to the underside, confirms that not only has she been painted under there too, but more importantly there’s a raft of new parts…..in fact it’s nearly all new. The front and rear suspension has been completely rebuilt / replaced. The front end now rides on a ‘Red 9 Design’ twin-wishbone and adjustable coilover front beam with rack and pinion steering (Very easily lowered if you wish to do so), with the rear featuring ‘Creative Engineering’ adjustable spring plates with Spax adjustable shock absorbers and rebuilt drum brakes. Opening the engine compartment the new owners will find a new highly detailed VW Heritage 1641cc engine (only 16000 miles since installation), with Empi dual down-draught carbs, alternator upgrade and electronic ignition conversion kit as well as a recently fitted Vintage Speed stainless steel exhaust system which cost £700 alone.
To add even more to this beautiful camper I had Lite-Steer Power steering fitted which makes driving a breeze(1 finger). Also a CSP gear shifter has been fitted which makes gear changing ultra smooth including a push button to shift into reverse. All pipes / hoses etc have been upgraded to conform with new E10 unleaded fuel.
All major work has been carried out by G’day Kombis who know campers like the back of their hands (power steering / CPS shifter / Red 9 setup etc). No expense has been spared and she drives superbly with NO issues at all, in fact she is better than when new. Any ‘in’ full inspection is welcomed. Also fitted is a satellite tracker that is monitored 24/7 which costs £98 per year for the monitoring.
I am not expecting to achieve a price of what has been spent and am asking for £28000 which is a fraction of what has been spent. I honestly believe that she is unmatched in many ways by similar priced campers and to date have not come across one with anywhere near this spec at this price and in this condition, THERE IS NO ROT AT ALL!!! ANYWHERE!. If you want the ‘right’ one, this IS IT! The photo’s don’t do it justice as have used an old mobile phone. Viewings are welcomed and encouraged. She needs to be used as is totally wasted just sitting there. I very much doubt you will find a better one at this price, most I have seen are nearer 40k with nowhere near as much spec as this. The ‘Vans’ decals can easily be removed as they are only transfers.
