With a reluctant & heavy heart we’re selling our beautiful Blu. We bought her as a shell last year with the intention of converting her into a day van/weekend away van, giving us a gentle introduction into full time van life. Fast forward one year and we’ve found our perfect full time home (a Mercedes sprinter Luton), meaning we must part ways with our beautiful T4.
The vehicle has never been welded and doesn’t require any future welding – which is great considering the age. Here is a run down of the work carried out to get her to where she is today. INTERIOR We removed all nails and screws, (previously used to install cheap ply) treated the holes and applied a generous base coat of hammeright to the shell to prevent future rust. We installed 2 windows, one fixed on the passenger side and one slide opening on the drivers side. We used approximately 100 sheets of deadmat metal sound deading to reduce internal and external sounds. 25mm insolation boards fitted into the floor and walls, followed by recycled plastic insulation between the fiddly areas, secured with double bubble and insulation tape. This ensures a warm space during the colder seasons. 12mm marine ply floor, finished with a wood effect vinyl flooring. Floor to ceiling cladding, giving a cosy and comfortable feel to the van. Pull out bench/bed with custom cut medium density foam mattress/cushions. Secured shabby-chic counter, perfect for cooking/making tea. With plenty of draw storage. Included under the counter is a 120Ah battery with a 1000w inverter. We decided to get a battery last minute so this is removable and NOT wired into the engine, but comes with the van. This allows for weekends away off grid, charging devices and keeping your 12V fridge cool. We installed JVC speakers and a Sony stereo with bluetooth media playing and hands free. We also installed cow hide in the cab, dividing curtains between the cab and the living area, finished with custom hand made curtains on all windows and hanging bead curtains to prevent insects entering when the doors are open. ENGINE WORK Currently mileage is 165300 (this is rounded up slightly to allow for current minimal usage) MOT till March 2025 The van was bought without service history and 2 previous owners – one was a charity and the 2nd was an old boy Gardner. We’d be the 3rd owners. 2 keys After purchasing we had a major service carried out, which included the timing belt and water pump, air filter, oil change and 4 replacement tyres. Recently we had an issue with the gears, which required the linkage to be replaced. Beside the recently ( now fixed ) issue with the gears – this vehicle drives like a dream. She starts first time, every time and is such a pleasure to drive. SUMMARY We are only parting ways with the van out of necessity (we don’t need a mobile home and multiple vehicles). An honest summary is since we’ve had her, she’s been very well looked after. Drives like a dream. Converted to a good standard, one we’re proud of at least – and would make a great all year round day van for a couple, or be a great starting base for a full time van lifer. The only down side to her would be the paint job. When we bought her we noticed a few bumps and scratches across the body, some superficial damage to the paint work and reminisce of previous signage. This was not a deal breaker as the vehicle was too good an opportunity to miss out on. Although the dream would be to have her painted or wrapped, whilst living in the city, it didn’t seem worth while; nor did we care to spend £££ on it. All work we’ve had done can be backed up by the appropriate paper work/documentation
