Ida is a rare find, a classic VW Type 2 bay window van with a Viking Spacemaker (or known as a Super-Viking) pop-up roof. The engine is a 2L engine (1970cc) flat-four, refurbished 3 years ago, refurbished dual Carburettors, RHD, colour, seat belts for 5 (including the retrofitted 3 lap belts), sleeping capacity 6, (as a double down below, and 4 single beds for adults, with mattress and solid base around the central opening in the roof). The Viking Spacemaker provides a lot of double-height space in the centre of the cab, compared to other camper vans, a huge advantage when camping in poor weather. Features include; Original 3-way fridge – we use as a cool box, original 2 burner gas hob, with grill under, fed by Calor gas bottle, the cooker unit slides out of the rear compartment to enable cooking outside, with legs that fold down to create a free-standing hob & Grill. Factory-fitted SS Sink with tap, plug and draining board. Tap pumped water from a portable water bottle (we have not tried the built-in tank but this is still intact as far as we are aware, a factory-fitted cooker extractor fan over the hob which vents to outside, lighting – 2 internal strip lights which run off the main vehicle battery, a new leisure battery fitted about 3 weeks ago, allowing use of 2 internal LED pivot spotlights and USB charging points, electric hook, an interior 3-pin plug socket fitted. Factory pack away interior dining table with removable leg, original interior and upholstery in standard brown check, lots of storage cupboards and drawers.
The main interior can be configured with all seats out, to seat 5, or with an alternative arrangement for 1. Driving, with walk through to the front, 2) Standing space to cook with one seat folder away, 3) Dining for 4 or 5 with the table, 4) Lounge without the table and seating for 5 people, 5) seats configured as a double bed arrangement using the put-away panels, which gives the total sleeping as 6. Roof has a luggage area with 2 roof rails for extra luggage storage.
Lots of service history and old MOT’s from 1999-present day. In last 3 years the engine has been taken out stripped down, given a total refurbishment, along with the Dual carbs, recent new clutch, recent new battery. The odometer shows mileage as 23172.
